I started to play and learn about the banjo nearly 2 years ago, and for some reason, it seems important to become the best banjo player I can be.
I have created this blog to share information on interesting banjo players and events and welcome any comments or suggestions. If you would like to be an editor or contributor to the blog and post your banjo related information, please leave a Comment or send me an EMAIL.
Hey Dan, i consider your “testimonial” absolutely fantastic and for me personally, inspiring. Combined with folk guitar, I have played bluegrass banjo on-and-off for many years, but never really got real serious with the instrument. Now, at 50, i really have the urge to finally “get good” on the banjo. But, the thought has crossed my mind several times “hey, dude, your too old to get good now”, so you have helped me make the positive decision to press on.
Thanks!
john
Hi Dan,
I agree with you about the magic of the banjo. I am new to playing, not to mention playing at age 40, but have fallen enlove with what it can do acoustically. For me, I am applying it to Eastern Indian and Middle Eastern music as well as some Greek and Asian scales. It’s wonderful! I play a Goldtone BC-120 Banjo with a 12″ renaissance head which almost seems to play itself. For anyone considering buying a banjo I suggest looking into Goldtone instruments. They are well made, have a good guarantee behind their products and have something for every wallet.
Hello Dan,
Like many of your previous commentators, I too, am late to get the urge to play the Banjo. At just 69 I guess that I too am a bit late, but what the hell, I am enjoying the instrument and will dedicate myself sufficiently well to get as far as I am able.
Come Saturday, I am heading off to get myself a Deering Black Diamond banjo, it looks to be a beautiful instrument, and , I figure, if I am going to ‘ fail’ then I might as well do it in style!
I have recently found Rick McKeons web site, and find it to be a wonderful aid. I think he is inspirational and philanthropic to boot.
I am located here in the North east of England U.K.
Kind regards to you and all fellow pickers.
Anthony.
